Rare earth elements are used in many advanced energy technologies, such as wind turbines, electric car batteries, and energy-efficient lights, which help to reduce CO2 and other emissions. Rare earth elements are important to both compact fluorescent lighting (CFLs), LED lighting, and fiber optics. One emerging technology using rare earth magnets, magnetic refrigeration, could potentially improve the energy efficiency of refrigerators for home and commercial use. Rare earths are critical to our new energy technologies.

Our Porous titanium sheet & porous stainless steel sheet can be used as gas diffusion layer (GDL) in Polymer-Electrolyte-Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC).

Power transmission and distribution

The Power Transmission and Distribution business unit develops durable and extremely temperature-resistant switch contact systems. Our customers use these systems to control voltages of up to 1200 kilovolts and currents of up to 50 kiloamps. Arcing generates temperatures of up to 2000 °C. Conventional metals would fail for this application, copper tungsten, copper chromium, and tungsten carbide-silver keep cool. Our arcing contacts are highly wear resistance and optimum arc erosion properties.
