Pyrolytic boron nitride ceramics are prepared by the CVD process (Chemical Vapor Deposition), where all boron nitride crystals are grown parallel to the surface on which they are deposited in the vapor phase. PBN is also known as Chemical Vapor Deposition Boron Nitride.

PBN does not react with acids, alkalis, organic solvents, molten metals, or graphite. Bulk impurities are less than 100 parts per million and metallic impurities are less than 10 parts per million. It withstands 1800°C in vacuum and 2000°C in nitrogen and has no melting point, making it an excellent choice for furnace components and melting vessels. Crucibles heated to 1200° C can be immersed in liquid nitrogen without causing visible damage. PBN-coated graphite heating elements provide extremely uniform temperature distribution for compound and silicon semiconductor manufacturing.

Performance PBN’s anisotropic conductivity improves process performance for crystal growth, whether the growth method is Liquid Encapsulated Czochralski (LEC), Vertical Gradient Freeze (VGF), or Bridgeman. The high purity and physical stability of this unique material also make it an excellent choice for use as auxiliary percolation cell hardware.
