Pyrolytic boron nitride (PBN) conical crucibles are produced using a CVD process to form a solid with all boron nitride crystals growing parallel to the surface on which the vapor is deposited. Due to the nature of the CVD process, thick-walled products (>3mm) are often not available. For PBN tapered crucible, the typical thickness is 0.8~1.5mm.

PBN products have extremely high purity, and the purity of gas raw materials is easier to control. Typically, PBN products have total impurities <100 ppm, which means the purity is no less than 99.99%. With such high purity levels, PBN products are ideal for the semiconductor industry and vacuum systems.

Due to its high density and purity, PBN is becoming a widely used material in vacuum processes. The CVD process gives this pyrolytic boron nitride a near-perfect layered structure, resulting in anisotropic thermal conductivity, making it an ideal material for making crystal growth crucibles. PBN conical crucibles are frequently consumed during crystal growth.

The pyrolytic boron nitride crucibles available from EDGETECH are custom produced from high purity materials in our CVD furnaces. PBN crucible size is limited to 12 inches in diameter x 12″ H, based on device dimensions.
