Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN) rings and other pyrolytic boron nitride products are synthesized on molds with BCl3 and NH3 at high temperatures and low pressures through the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process. The purity of PBN products is extremely high because the purity of the gaseous materials can be more easily controlled. Typically, PBN products have less than 100 ppm total impurities, which means a purity of no less than 99.99%. PBN rings with such high purity are ideal for the semiconductor industry and vacuum systems.

Because of its high density and purity, PBN has become a widely used material in vacuum processes, and the CVD process gives this pyrolytic boron nitride a nearly perfect layered structure, resulting in anisotropic thermal conductivity, making it ideal for use in the manufacture of furnaces and vacuum system components.

Edgetech Industries offers pyrolytic boron nitride rings cut from 1 mm, 2 mm, or 3 mm thick PBN rings with diameters of approximately 10 to 14 inches. While the diameter of the raw PBN is limited by the size of the equipment, the finished PBN rings can be machined to highly customized shapes at a competitive cost. For custom PBN products, send us a drawing with all the details.

Features and Benefits

-Ultra-high purity and fully dense to deliver negligible outgassing and makes the pBN suitable for high-temperature UHV conditions

-Chemically inert to most gases and molten metals, allowing pBN to be used in high-temperature processes without concerns about contamination and structural integrity

-One of the highest dielectric strength materials known, providing excellent electrical insulation properties for high-temperature applications

-Good thermal conductivity and toughness enable excellent thermal shock resistance

-Balance of softness and toughness allows the processing of complex features

PBN Ring Applications

Pyrolytic Boron Nitride insulating rings are often used as insulating components in high vacuum and high-temperature environments due to their excellent high-temperature electrical insulation properties and ultra-high purity.

-Insulating sheets, rings, and holders used in vacuum and high-temperature applications such as OLEDs, CIGS, and semiconductors.

Packing

As a ceramic material, boron nitride is quite fragile in a lot of cases. The Pyrolytic Boron Nitride Rings are usually held in plastic bags by vacuum, and protected with heavy foam.
