Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN) rings and other pyrolytic boron nitride products are synthesized on molds with BCl3 and NH3 at high temperatures and low pressures through the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process. The purity of PBN products is extremely high because the purity of the gaseous materials can be more easily controlled. Typically, PBN products have less than 100 ppm total impurities, which means a purity of no less than 99.99%. PBN rings with such high purity are ideal for the semiconductor industry and vacuum systems.

Because of its high density and purity, PBN has become a widely used material in vacuum processes, and the CVD process gives this pyrolytic boron nitride a nearly perfect layered structure, resulting in anisotropic thermal conductivity, making it ideal for use in the manufacture of furnaces and vacuum system components.
