Nitinol wire is made by drawing from rods, it can be used in dental braces, stent, glasses, fishing wire, springs, actuating wire, etc.

The active Af temperature is one of the key properties of Nitinol, which can determine the effective superelastic properties of the alloy. Although the main Ni content in the range of 54.5~57.0wt% is in line with the ASTM F2063-18 standard specification, its Af is very sensitive to chemical composition, and the detailed classification of the Nitinol composition is very important.

We provide nitinol wire with a wide range of Af points (-10 to 110), the finest wire we can carry for this range is 0.1mm. We also provide thinner and flat wires, but the Af range will be much narrower.

Nitinol Actuating Wire

Nitinol SMA Actuating Wire, which physically functions like a biological muscle, contracts when it is activated.

– With electric heating, the wire will be activated when the temperature is higher than its transition temperature.

– When the material cools, it can be stretched back to its original length for subsequent shrinkage.

0.02mm, Nitinol muscle wire is an important component for robotic applications. Nitinol muscle wires (also known as shape memory actuator wires) offer many interesting possibilities for robotics. Nitinol actuator wire is capable of retracting with great force and is useful in many applications where servo motors or solenoids might be considered.

The properties of the actuator wire depend largely on the fabrication of nitinol and the preparation of the wire. Nitinol can be formulated to transform over a wide temperature range. When intended for use as an actuator, Nitinol is generally formulated to transform at temperatures accessible to an electric current. Our Nitinol alloys are available in low-temperature and high-temperature formulations to support different applications.

The thickness (or gauge) of the actuator wire will determine the maximum force that can be applied. Thickness/diameter also determines the current resistance of the wire, the available current required to achieve a transition, and the time it takes the wire to heat and cool. Actuators made with 0.006-inch wire and below can be easily controlled with basic microcontroller technology and powered by a simple array of transistors. To achieve greater pulling force with thinner wire, more actuators can be used. Our thinnest nitinol actuator wire is 0.02mm thick.

Another advantage of using nitinol actuators is that the activation mechanism is thermal rather than magnetic, and these solutions do not introduce magnetic noise into the circuit.
