Lanthanum is a soft, malleable, malleable, silver-white rare earth element. It is a member of the lanthanides or lanthanides. Lanthanum is very reactive, rapidly oxidizes in the air, and burns easily when ignited.

Lanthanum is added to eyeglasses to produce special optical glasses such as telescope lenses. Large quantities of lanthanum are used in the production of rechargeable batteries for hybrid vehicles. For example, batteries for the Toyota Prius require 22-33 pounds of lanthanum. Lanthanum compounds are also used in wastewater treatment and kidney failure treatment.

Lanthanum oxide

Lanthanum oxide is a white, odorless solid that is soluble in dilute acids but insoluble in water. La2O3 is a rare earth oxide compound and is a basic anhydride, so it can undergo redox reactions with acids and strong reducing agents. The rare earth oxide compound contains at least one oxyanion and one metal cation. They are generally insoluble in aqueous solutions (water) and are very stable, which makes them useful in ceramic structures. As a result, lanthanum oxide has a wide range of applications, from the production of clay bowls to advanced electronics. Due to its ionic conductivity, lanthanum oxide is also used in lightweight structural components in aerospace and electrochemical applications such as fuel cells.

Properties of Lanthanum hexaboride:
