Tantalum plate is made by forging and rolling a billet of tantalum metal, a metal that is very heavy, ductile, hard, and highly resistant to corrosion. Tantalum plates are particularly resistant to chemicals at temperatures below 150 °C and can only be dissolved with hydrofluoric acid. Tantalum plates have a high melting point that creates an extremely thin protective oxide layer for high-quality capacitors, making it an excellent bulk material.
